LEXINGTON, Ky. – A week after earning American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region honors, Jacksonville State junior Lena Kindermann has been tabbed one of the organization's prestigious All-Americans.
Â
The AVCA announced Kindermann as an honorable mention All-American on Wednesday, making her JSU's third different All-American and fifth overall selection in the program's history. She's joins former two-time Ohio Valley Conference Female Athlete of the Year, Abbey Breit, who was tabbed AVCA honorable mention All-American in three consecutive seasons from 2005-2007, along with Emily Withers who joined Breit on the 2006 list.
Â
Kindermann, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Neuenkirchen, Germany, was named the OVC's Co-Player of the Year after leading the Gamecocks to their second-straight conference crown. She led her squad with 255 kills and tallied 43 blocks through an 18-match season. Her .361 hitting percentage ranked second in the conference behind teammate Katie Montgomery's .365 clip, and stood 57th overall in the nation. She was the go-to option on an offense that hit .295 as a team for the season, paced by fellow AVCA All-Region selection Lexie Libs at setter.
Â
With a 15-0 start to the year, Kindermann helped JSU climb to the second-longest active win streak in the nation as the Gamecocks held a top-25 RPI ranking throughout the spring. In just three seasons, and this past spring being an abbreviated schedule, Kindermann has already amassed 943 career kills, just 57 shy of becoming the 22nd Gamecock to reach the 1,000 milestone.
Â
Kindermann and the Gamecocks are currently in the midst of the OVC beach season, and will transition to the ASUN Conference this summer for a new 2021 fall indoor schedule.
