MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Jacksonville State scored in seven of the nine innings and accumulated a season-high 19 hits in a 14-10 win over Alabama State on Wednesday night at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex on the ASU campus.
The Gamecocks moved to 13-14 overall and have taken the first two of three meetings with the Hornets (12-14) this season. JSU topped ASU on the opening weekend of the season and will wrap up the season set on May 12 at Rudy Abbott Field at
Jim Case Stadium. Jax State now turns its attention to a pivotal Ohio Valley Conference weekend against Belmont. The series with the Bruins will start on Friday on Rudy Abbott Field at Jim case Stadium.
JSU scored at least a run in each of the first five innings, including a three-run second and broke up a 4-4 deadlock with two runs in the third and did not stop expanding the lead. Junior
Cole Frederick delivered a two-out, two-run home run over the left field wall to give JSU a lead in which it did not relinquish the rest of the way. Frederick finished the night with three hits and a pair of RBI. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native also had two of JSU's seven doubles in the win.
As the Gamecock bats were staying hot, the pitching staff kept ASU off the scoreboard for three consecutive frames as the lead was expanding. JSU used eight pitchers in the contest with freshman

Trey Fortner benefited from JSU taking the lead as he picked up the win after tossing a clean third inning.

Alex Carignan turned in his first home run of the season with the second of three two-run home runs by the Gamecocks in the JSU fourth inning. Freshman
Derrick Jackson, Jr. added the third home run of the night to highlight JSU's three-run seventh that gave the club a 13-5 advantage. Jackson added a double in his next at bat in the ninth.
