Schiffli Named ASUN Freshman of the Week - Jacksonville State University Athletics

ATLANTA, Ga. – Jacksonville State freshman Brooklyn Schiffli has been named the ASUN Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Schiffli, a 5-foot-7 defensive specialist/libero from Indianapolis, Indiana, made her debut this weekend, helping the Gamecocks to three sweeps.

Schiffli started at libero for JSU in all three matches of the Gamecock Classic Tournament, playing in all nine sets. She totaled 35 digs for 3.89 per set, both of which are team-highs for the season.

In her first game as a Gamecock against Gardner-Webb, Schiffli totaled nine digs and added two assists. She added a team-high 13 digs each in games two and three against Alabama State and Middle Tennessee, respectively. Schiffli also recorded five more assists in the final two games of the tournament, giving her 35 digs and five assists on the weekend.

Schiffli and the Gamecocks started the season 3-0 for the second consecutive season and are one of three undefeated teams in the ASUN after opening weekend in non-conference play.

"Brooklyn had a fantastic weekend, especially for it being opening weekend of her freshman year," said Head Coach Todd Garvey. "She was all over the place on defense and provided great energy for the team. I'm excited to see what she can do this season."

Jax State hosts Chattanooga Tuesday, August 31 in THE PETE at 6 p.m. before a road trip to Charleston, South Carolina this weekend.
