
Gamecocks Start Season On Strong Note Behind Van Patten

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Junior Mackenzie Van Patten led the Jacksonville State rifle team in the 2021-22 season debut on Saturday against The Citadel.
The Gamecocks fired a final mark of 4652 in the first competition of the season, while the Bulldogs posted a 4549 aggregate score. JSU turned in a 2311 in smallbore and a 2341 in air rifle.
Van Patten scored an 1173 aggregate score to claim the top individual spot among the individuals. She fired a 590 to bolster JSU's air rifle result and added a 583 in smallbore. Freshman Kim Jettenberg finished six shots back of Van Patten with a total of 1167. She matched Van Patten in air rifle and carded a 577 in smallbore. Newcomer Angus Babcock made his collegiate debut, finishing third overall with an 1155. Babcock recorded a 582 in air rifle and a 573 in smallbore.
Freshman Lars Lilleng registered the second-best mark in smallbore with a 579 and followed that compilation with a 575 in air rifle for a total of 1154. JSU's Owen Goad rounded out the top-five finishers with an 1153 with scores of 582 in air rifle and 571 in smallbore. Michael Dietz compiled an 1151 for sixth place, while newcomer Clark McWhorter finished his first Gamecock outing with an 1147. Kaila Jones posted an 1143 aggregate mark.
The Gamecocks will wrap up the weekend with another head-to-head outing with The Citadel on Sunday.
