
Gamecock Women Begin Busy Stretch at The Southern

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team will start a busy stretch to finish its fall schedule this week Georgia Southern's tournament.
The Gamecocks will compete in The Southern from Monday-Wednesday at the Savannah Golf Club, playing 54 holes on the 6,036-yard, par-72 layout. The 10-team event will begin with 18 holes on Monday morning and conclude with single rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday, as well.
The week will start a stretch of three tournaments in 16 days for the Gamecocks, who haven't played since Sept. 27 in the APSU Intercollegiate. They will pay in the Charlotte invitational from Oct. 24-25 and then wrap up the fall at Southern Miss' The Judson from Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
The young Jax State team will be led by senior Claire Vermette at The Southern. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native leads the team with a 74.67 stroke average and will occupy the Gamecocks' No. 1 spot in this week's event.
The other veteran on the team, sophomore Paula Perez Cubinas, will play in the No. 2 spot for Jax State, holding a 75.83 scoring average through two events. The Girona, Spain, native is coming off a seventh-place finish in JSU's last event.
Four freshmen will round out the Gamecocks' lineup in Savannah, with Anna Ymbern Quinoa playing at No. 3 and Ebby Somers making her JSU debut at No. 4. Luciana Calbimonte will play in the No. 5 position and Aaron Whitley will compete as an individual.
The Gamecocks will compete against host Georgia Southern, as well as ASUN Conference foes Kennesaw State and North Florida. Future Conference USA Opponent Western Kentucky will be in the field, along with Augusta, Campbell, Yale, Incarnate Word and Seminole State.
The Gamecocks will begin play on the 10th hole, with Calbimonte hitting Jax State's first tee shot at 8:32 a.m..
