Gamecocks Continue Fall Season at Charlotte Invitational

CONCORD, N.C. – The Jacksonville State women's golf season continues on Monday, when the Gamecocks tee it up in the Charlotte Invitational.
The tournament will be the first ever hosted by Charlotte, which in in just its fifth season with a women's golf program, and will feature 12 teams playing 54 holes on the Cabarrus Country Club. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday on the par-72, 6,381-yard layout.
A young Gamecocks lineup will look to continue to grow in their fourth of five fall tournaments. They are coming off an eighth-place finish at The Southern last week, an event hosted by Georgia Southern at the Savannah Golf Club.
The tournament will pit the Gamecocks against teams from across the country, featuring host Charlotte, Cal Poly, James Madison, Xavier, Northern Illinois, East Carolina, Marshall, High Point and ASUN Conference foes Eastern Kentucky and Queens.
The lone upperclassman on Jax State's roster will lead the lineup once again in Charlotte, with redshirt-senior Claire Vermette playing the No. 1 spot. She led JSU in a tie for 15th at The Southern, the second time in three events that the St. Petersburg, Fla., native has been Jax State's top finisher.
Sophomore Paula Perez Cubinas will start in the No. 2 position for head coach Robbie Fields this week. The native of Girona, Spain, is the second-most experienced player on the Gamecocks' roster and tied for 40th last week.
Freshman Ebby Somers moves up into the No. 3 position after an impressive collegiate debut at The Southern. The native of Valdosta, Ga., finished 35th with a 237 that featured 30 pars and the Gamecocks' lone eagle in the tournament.
Freshmen Anna Ymbern Quinoa will play No. 4 for the Gamecocks this week, while fellow freshman Luciana Calbimonte will play fifth. Redshirt-freshman Aaron Whitley will compete as an individual.
Play will begin on Monday with a 9 a.m. ET shotgun start. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
