North Alabama Rallies Past Jax State

FLORENCE, Ala. – North Alabama erased a 1-0 second half deficit with a pair of goals in the 30 minutes of the Sunday afternoon contest to down Jacksonville State, 2-1, at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex on the UNA campus.

The Gamecocks wrap up the long road with a draw on Thursday at Central Arkansas and the setback to the Lions on Sunday. JSU dropped to 2-11-1 overall and 0-5-1 in ASUN matches. UNA improved to 5-6- on the season and 2-4-2 in league play. After three straight matches away from the JSU Soccer Field, Jax State returns home for the final home weekend of the season, beginning on Thursday, Oct. 13 against Bellarmine. The program will honor its seven seniors prior to the start of the contest with the Knights. JSU's final home outing will be Sunday, Oct. 16 against Eastern Kentucky.

The Lions rallied for the win after the Gamecocks broke the scoreless deadlock after being awarded a penalty kick. Senior Briana Eads successfully netted the attempt in the 62nd minute. The PK came after a scoring run created by senior Ali Thomas. After being limited toone shot in the first 45 minutes, JSU posted seven shots in the second half to finish with eight in the contest. The Lions, who had 10 in the opening half, turned in five attempts in the second half.

UNA equalized three minutes after JSU's goal as Chloe Fell collected the first of two goals on the afternoon after an assist by Olivia Anderson. Fell notched the game winner after a PK was awarded to UNA in the 74th minute.

"I thought we played relatively well and it is attention to details at times that beats us and some individual errors. I think as a team we worked really hard today," said head coach Neil Macdonald.

Seven different Gamecocks registered shot attempts, led by Allessandra Romano's pair of looks at goal. Freshman goalkeeper posted seven stops in the setback.

"We created some chances in the game, but it is attention to details in making runs by defenders and stuff like that," added Macdonald.

After three matches away from home, JSU will be back on its home pitch for the next two matches and will be looking to send the senior class out the right way.

"I think this has been a really long trip for us and everybody is looking to getting back home. We are looking forward to this weekend with senior night on Thursday night," continued Macdonald.

Kick off between Bellarmine and JSU is set for 7 p.m. Admission is free to all home soccer matches. Both ASUN outings will be streamed on ESPN+.
