JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State volleyball netted four ASUN All-Conference Team selections on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
Fifth-year outside hitter Lena Kindermann was named to the league's First-Team All-Conference list and fifth-year middle blocker Katie Montgomery was a Second-Team honoree. Graduate transfers Claire Ochs and Sophie Riemersma were ASUN Third-Team All-Conference selections as well.
Â
Kindermann has had a storied career for the Gamecocks but saved her best for last in 2022. The Neuenkirchen, Landhagan, Germany, native posted a career-high 390 kills in her fifth year, leading the conference altogether in that statistic. In hitting .338 on the year, Kindermann finished third in the ASUN and first among outside hitters. In addition, her marks in points (420.0, 3rd), kills per set (3.71, 4th), and points per set (4.00, 5th) were also top ten in the league. This season, Kindermann moved into second all-time in career kills in JSU's program history and was named to the ASUN All-Academic Team on Wednesday too. The First-Team All-ASUN honor, in which she received the fourth-most votes of anyone in the conference, is the fourth of her career.
Â
Montgomery, a veteran middle blocker from Idaho Falls, Idaho, had a season to remember this fall. The Southern Utah transfer hit a conference-best .371 in 2022 which ranked 42nd nationally in the regular season. Montgomery was third on the team in kills with 245 and led Jacksonville State with 89 total blocks, including tallying a career-high of eight rejections in JSU's five-set classic versus Auburn on Sept. 17. Katie's selection marks the third of her career after being named a 2020 All-OVC First-Teamer and a 2021 All-ASUN Second-Team pick.
Â
Ochs joined the Gamecocks this season after four years as Southeast Missouri State's starting setter. The 2021 OVC Setter of the Year dazzled again- this time in a Gamecock uniform- and ended up with 10.83 assists per set and 1,116 assists. Those marks ranked 18th and 19th respectively in all of Division I. Ochs topped 5,000 career assists in JSU's sweep of Bellarmine on Oct. 15 and enters the tournament with 5,341 assists, 1,487 digs, and 484 kills. Claire's honor is the fifth of her decorated career after earning an All-OVC selection each year at SEMO.
Â
Like Ochs, Riemersma came to Jacksonville State in 2022 as a graduate transfer after starring as an outside hitter for four seasons at Miami (Ohio). The Holland, Michigander added 266 kills to her career total as a fifth-year performer and reached the 1,000-kill milestone in Jax State's road win at Austin Peay on Nov. 5. Sophie's year-long hitting percentage of .313 was just outside the league's top ten, but her in-conference mark of .357 was the third-best of all ASUN attackers. Riemersma's selection is the second of her career after being named to the MAC All-Freshman team as a RedHawk in 2018.
