JACKSONVILLE – History was achieved on Wednesday afternoon as fifth-year outside hitter Lena Kindermann secured the first ever College Sports Communications Academic All-American honor for the Jacksonville State volleyball program.
Â
Kindermann was selected to CSC's Third Team Academic All-America list, which recognizes the top student-athletes in Division I women's indoor volleyball. This achievement serves as simply another accolade in the decorated career of one of JSU's best.
Â
The standout outside hitter from Neuenkirchen, Landhagan, Germany, concluded a stellar five-year career with a dominant 2022 campaign. Kindermann moved into second all-time in program history with 1,745 career kills after leading the ASUN Conference with 390 kills in the regular season. In addition, she finished Top 5 in points (420.0, 3rd), kills per set (3.71, 4th), and points per set (4.00, 5th) as well during the regular season and led Jax State to a 24-6 overall record.
Â
Along with shining on the floor, Kindermann excelled in the classroom. She graduated from Jacksonville State University in December 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in English and finished that undergraduate program with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Kindermann is currently enrolled in JSU's Master of Arts in English program and has a 3.75 graduate GPA.
Â
This recognition from CSC is not the only one that Kindermann received this season. She was also selected to the ASUN's All-Academic Team and was the only Gamecock to be named an ASUN All-Conference First-Teamer.
Â
Since 1952, College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) has presented these awards annually to student-athletes in recognition of their outstanding academic and athletic achievements. CSC receives around 20,000 nominations during the academic year across all championship shorts, while approximately 1,750 student-athletes receive Academic All-America honors.
