JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State Women's basketball begins the final road trip of the regular season with a matchup against the Lipscomb Bisons on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. inside Allen Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
Â
The contest marks the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs and the second of the season. JSU leads the all-time series 4-3 and defeated the Bisons 80-70 in January. Senior Imari Martin led the way with 20 points and was 5-of-13 from three-point range in the win.
Â
JSU enters the matchup 18-6 overall and 9-3 in ASUN play, coming off a 66-48 win over Central Arkansas last time out. With a win over the Bisons JSU would tie the D-I era single-season wins record at JSU of 19 wins. The win would also push the Gamecocks closer to clinching a West Division Championship. A JSU win over the Bisons and a UNA loss Thursday would clinch the division for JSU. If both teams win on Thursday, then the Gamecocks can clinch with a win over Bellarmine on Sunday. No matter the result of UNA's game, JSU can clinch a first-round bye with a win on Thursday.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+. Fans can follow live stats at JSUGamecocksports.com and listen to the game with Mike Parris on the JSU Gamecock Sports Network.
Â
Imari Martin leads JSU on the offensive end this season with 11.2 points per game as the Gamecocks are the third-ranked scoring offense in the ASUN at 67.9 points per game.
Â
Junior Nekiyah Thompson led the way with 16 points and five assists in the win over the Sugar Bears last time out. Â Â Thompson is leading the ASUN with a 2.54 assist-to-turnover ratio and leads a JSU team that is top-ten in the nation in turnovers with just 11.8 per game.
JSU is allowing just 58.5 points per game to its opponents, good enough for fifth in the league. JSU and Liberty are the only teams in the ASUN that ranks in the top-five in both scoring offense and scoring defense. JSU is 13-0 when holding its opponents to under 60 points and 9-0 when scoring 70 or more.
Winning the rebounding battle has proved to be an important component to winning for the Gamecocks this season.  JSU is 14-1 on this year when outrebounding its opponents. The loss to Stetson marked just the first time this season JSU has outrebounded its opponent and lost. JSU is third in the league in rebounding (38.6 rpg). Senior Kennedy Gavin leads JSU with 7.1 rebounds per game and is fifth in the ASUN.
Jaylyn Holcomb leads the way for Lipscomb with 9.6 points per game this season while Blythe Pearson is fourth in the league with 48 three-pointers made and is averaging 9.0 points per.
