HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team fell to Southern Miss, 4-1 on Saturday afternoon on the road for the first loss of the season.
Southern Miss (1-1) opened the match with wins on the No. 1 and No.3 doubles courts. The No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished after the Golden Eagles secured the doubles point.
Southern Miss earned consecutive wins in No. 1 and No. 6 singles to take a 3-0 lead in the match.
On the No. 4 singles court,
Vanja Dobrnjac earned the lone win for the Gamecocks. He defeated Alan Sanson 6-1 in the first set before falling 7-6 in the second. In the tie-breaking third set Dobrnjac led 2-0 before Sanson retired, giving him his second singles win of the season. Following the lone win of the match for JSU, the Golden Eagles earned a win on the No. 3 singles court to win, 4-1.
With the loss JSU falls to 1-1 on the season.
The Gamecocks will continue the road trip tomorrow against New Orleans at 10 a.m.
