Jacksonville – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team defeated North Alabama 5-2 at home to open the ASUN season.
 
With the win JSU improves to 5-7 overall on the year.
 
North Alabama won two out of three doubles match to take a 1-0 lead in the beginning of the match.
 
JSU used five singles wins to earn the match-win.
 
Wins in the fifth and sixth flights from Zuzana Pavelekova (6-1, 6-1) and Kennedi Jones (6-3, 6-3), respectively, pushed the Gamecocks to a 2-1 lead over the Lions. After a win for UNA in the fourth flight evened the match, 2-2, Dariana Prato gave JSU the lead in the third flight, winning 6-1, 1-6, 7-5. Anna Syrova clinched the match win from the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Romane Mosse added a 6-4, 7-6 win in the No. 1 spot to push JSU to the 5-2 win.
 
"This was a great win for us and one that we needed badly to start conference play. It was good to see certain girls get through tough moments and show confidence and character to get over the finish line," said Head Coach Mike Mucci. "I'm excited to see what this group can do in the ASUN, and we will now rest and prepare for central Arkansas Monday."
