
Vermette, Gamecocks Finish Fourth at Georgia State Invite

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Led by Claire Vermette's fourth-place finish, the Jacksonville State women's golf team finished fourth in the Georgia State Invitational on Tuesday.
Vermette carded a final-round 71 on the par-72, 6,225-yard Rivermont Golf Club on Tuesday to cap off a 54-hole score of 220. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native was just four shots out of first in the 90-player field, which was won by Lipscomb's Lauren Thompson.
The Gamecocks got better each round of the tournament and turned in their best round in Tuesday's final round. They shot a 296, 10 shots better than the second-round 306 they finished Monday with. JSU opened play with a 311 on Monday morning before rallying for the 54-hole score of 913 that was only four shots behind Xavier's 909, which won the 16-team tournament.
Vermette also got better as the tournament went on. She started things off with a 76 in Monday's early round before bouncing back with a 1-over 73 on Monday afternoon. The 1-under 71 on Tuesday moved her four spots up the leaderboard into the tie for fourth.
Teammate Berta Sanchez also finished in the top 10 for Jacksonville State, claiming a seventh-place finish with a 54-hole score of 223. The native of Barcelona, Spain, turned in two rounds of 74 on Monday before a 75 on Tuesday held her place in the Top 10.
Ana Perez Altuna tie for 27th, thanks to a 232 for the event. The native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, had her best round on Tuesday with a 1-over 73 that catapulted her 15 spots up the leaderboard. She opened play with rounds of 79 and 80 on Monday to get her tournament started.
Paula Perez Cubinas tied for 48th with a 238 that featured rounds of 82-89-78, while Valentina Curet tied for 80th with a 251 (88-81-82).
The Gamecocks have one event remaining before the ASUN Conference Championship. They will play in Appalachian State's Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate in Morganton, N.C., from April 4-5. The ASUN Championship will be held at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Course in Valdosta, Ga., from April 17-19.
