
JSU Women Claim Third at Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate

MORGANTOWN, N.C. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team will head in to the ASUN Women's Golf Championship with plenty of momentum after securing its third consecutive top-five finish after a third place showing at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
Senior Valentia Curet, sophomore Berta Sanchez and junior Claire Vermette bolstered the finish with top-10 finishes, highlighted by Curet and Sanchez finished fourth and fifth respectively. Vermette rounded it the top-10 on the individual leaderboard. Curet turned in a final round one-over par 73 after recording a 73 and two-under par 70 in the first two rounds at the Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club. She finished at even par, 216 in the event. Sanchez turned in JSU's best round of the day on Tuesday with an even par mark of 72. She opened the 72-hole outing with a one-under par score of 71.
Vermette registered a round of 76 on Tuesday following scores of 71 and 75 after 36 holes of action. Ana Perez Altuna rounded out Jax State's third-round score of 297 with a 76 on Tuesday.
The Gamecocks finished behind Georgia Southern and South Carolina Upstate. The Eagles of Georgia Southern claimed the Appalachian State-hosted event by five shots ahead of USC Upstate. Sarunchana Rattanasin of Georgia Southern claimed medalist honors with a one-under par tournament total.
With JSU's third-place finish in North Carolina, it has placed in the top-five in eight of the 11 tournaments in the 2021-22 season.
The Gamecocks will now prep for the ASUN Women's Golf Championship that will begin on April 17 in Valdosta, Georgia at Kinderlou Golf Club.
