JACKSONVILLE – The JSU men's tennis team dropped a tightly-contested match to North Florida, 4-3 on Friday afternoon.
 
With the loss JSU drops to 7-6 on the year and 2-2 in conference play while the Osprey's move to 12-6 overall and 3-1 in the league. The Gamecocks fall to fifth place in the ASUN and UNF moves into second place.
 
JSU opened the match with wins at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles, respectively, to take an early 1-0 lead in the match. Fifth year seniors Alex Vishnevskiy and Joaquin Vallejo opened doubles play with a 6-1 win in the third flight. Maj Tomac and Thomas Norwood clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win in the first flight.
 
The Gamecocks gained early leads on several singles courts but dropped two early matches in the fifth and first flight, respectively, to fall behind 2-1 in the match. A win in the fourth flight for Vanja Dobrnjac, 6-2, 6-4, evened the match 2-2. Norwood pushed JSU's lead to one, 3-2, with a 7-6, 6-3 win on the No. 2 court. Freshman Daisuke Inagawa's comeback attempt in the sixth flight fell short, 2-6, 6-4, 1-6, in just his fourth career start and evened the match 3-3. Vicente Arbelaez held an early lead on the No. 3 court, 6-4, but fell in straight sets, 4-6, 1-6, as UNF clinched the match win, 4-3.  
 
JSU will return to action on Sunday, April 3, against Stetson at 1 p.m.
