JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team suffered another tightly-contest loss Sunday afternoon, 4-3, against Stetson.
Stetson (8-8, 2-3) opened the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take the doubles point over JSU (7-7, 2-3).
Wins in the first and fifth flights of singles play, respectively, gave the Hatters a 3-0 advantage over the Gamecocks. Stetson clinched the match win in the sixth flight as
Jordi Blanchar fell 6-2, 6-4. JSU added three points following the clinch.
Vicente Arbelaez earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in the fourth flight before
Thomas Norwood added a 6-4, 6-3 win in the third.
Maj Tomac finished off the match with his 7-5, 7-6 win in at No. 2 singles.
The Gamecocks drop to sixth place in the ASUN standings with the loss. The top-six teams will earn a trip to the ASUN Conference Tournament which will begin on April 22.
Five matches remain for the JSU this year. The Gamecocks will return to action on Tuesday, April 5, against West Alabama at 1 p.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts. Conference play will continue on April 8, against Kennesaw State at 1 p.m. on the road.
