JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State softball team put away put away visiting Alabama State, 4-0, on Tuesday night in the Gamecocks' final nonconference matchup of the season.
JSU (27-19) picked up a second-straight win behind freshman
Sarah Currie in the circle. Meanwhile, ASU fell to 18-27 after collecting just seven hits along with a trio of errors.
Quiet through the first inning and a half,
Addie Robinson continued her recent on-base streak by beating out a poor throw from shortstop for a leadoff runner. After moving to second on
Abbi Perkins' sacrifice bunt, Robinson rounded third to score the game's first run on
Hannah Buffington's double to the left field corner.
Currie allowed just one baserunner in the third and fourth inning each before calling it a night with five strikeouts in an calm 58-pitch outing. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native, moves to 11-7 this season with the win. Fellow freshman
Kat Carter entered for the final three innings to complete the shutout of the Hornets.
A home run for
Megan Fortner added JSU's second run of the night to begin the third. Robinson came around to score her second run later on to extend the lead to three. Jax State tacked on its fourth and final run in the fourth on Fortner's second RBI that plated
Lauren Hunt on a double to left.
JSU prepares to host Bellarmine at University Field this Saturday and Sunday for the final home action of the season. The Gamecocks will wrap up the regular season at Central Arkansas the following weekend.
