BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Jacksonville State turned in a season-high 17 shots on Thursday afternoon in a 2-1 loss to Gardner-Webb at Greene-Harbison Stadium in women's soccer action.
JSU, playing its third of four consecutive games away from campus, dropped to 0-5 on the season, while the Bulldogs improved to 3-1-1 overall. The Gamecocks wrap up the weekend on Sunday with a short drive over to Atlanta, Georgia to face the Panthers of Georgia State. Match time is set for 6 p.m. CST and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Runnin' Bulldogs thwarted a Gamecock rally after taking a 2-0 lead after netting the first goal of the contest in the 49th minute. GWU's Autumn Woodard scored after an assist from Maddie Turlington. Julianna Jatkola added the eventual game-winning goal in the 74th minute. Jatkola finished off the scoring play that was set up by Abby Clark Carina Leal.
Jax State sophomore
Laleh Lonteen jump-started the comeback attempt with a goal in the 78th minute. It was Lonteen's first career goal as a Gamecock. The Prosper, Texas native also turned in a career-high six shots in the setback.
Lonteen led the JSU offensive effort with the six shots, including five on-goal looks. The Gamecocks had multiple chances in the final 45 minutes with 11 of the 17 total shots coming in the second half. JSU limited GWU to four shots in the second half and six in the second period.
"We beat ourselves again. We are giving the ball away to easily in possession," said head coach
Neil Macdonald. "We have to improve our decision making on and off the ball. We have too players that don't know their roles and don't pay attention to details. Until they do, we won't dig ourselves out of this hole."

Bailey Dean collected three saves, while GWU's Chloe Leffler made seven stops on the afternoon.
Following Sunday's match at GSU, the Gamecocks return home next weekend to begin a five-match homestand.
