JACKSON, Miss. – Jacksonville State men's tennis scored an impressive comeback victory in Saturday's non-conference match at Jackson State.
 
The Gamecocks (3-1) dropped the doubles point in the Magnolia State. Although they put up a fight in the no. 1 and no. 3 doubles flights, Jax State fell in both showdowns 6-4 and conceded the opening point to the Tigers (0-1)
 
"This was a heck of a college tennis match," men's tennis associate head coach Trey Morris said. "I'm proud of the way our guys competed. Following the doubles point, we asked our guys to show us something and they did. Now, we're just ready to get back to practice on Monday to keep building."
 
Jacksonville State responded in a big way in singles competition by winning all six of the individual flights. Lucius Soller (6-2, 6-3) and Vicente Arbelaez (7-5, 6-1) tallied two-set triumphs, but the remaining four matchups came down a decisive third set. Fortunately for head coach Mike Mucci and the aforementioned Morris, their team delivered. Logan Haga (6-2, 5-7, 6-4), Alin Fatu (6-4, 3-6, 6-0), Xavier Sarda Marti (6-3, 4-6, 6-2), and Vanja Dobrnjac (6-1, 7-6 [7-9]) each pulled out wins in back-and-forth matches. 
 
After securing their third straight win on Saturday, Jacksonville State men's tennis will enjoy six days off before their next match. The Gamecocks will host two non-conference opponents for a doubleheader next Saturday. The men and women will take on Wallace State Community College at 10 a.m., and action versus Young Harris will follow at around 3 p.m.
