Moseley Posts Ten Kills Against Liberty

JACKSONVILLE – Kaylee Moseley tied a match-high with ten kills on Friday night at Pete Mathews Coliseum as Gamecock volleyball dropped its home series opener versus Liberty. The Flames jumped in front in each set and slammed down on the accelerator, powering to a straight-sets win.

"We have to do all of the little things very well to be successful and our prep this week was not what I need it to be," head coach Derek Schroeder said. "That's entirely on me. When we don't do the basics well- serve, pass, and defend- we are going to struggle to beat anyone. We just didn't have it tonight."

Liberty (9-10, 2-5) scored an early lead in the opening set thanks to a 6-0 run sparring from five consecutive attack errors by Jax State (4-13, 2-5). Though they cut the deficit to as low as two, they could not bridge the gap and dropped the first interval, 25-17. Jacksonville State again struggled in the second, hitting .048 as a team and dropped the set by ten points. Despite the home team totaling eight kills in the final frame, the Flames exploded for 14 finishes to cap off a three-setter with a 25-19 difference.

Moseley and Liberty middle blocker Madison Blane had ten kills each on Friday night. Maddie Stayer added five kills and a career-best four blocks while Morgan McClure posted four kills and two blocks. Brooklyn Schiffli and Gracie Danziger had ten and seven digs respectively while Ellie Garrett finished with 21 assists.

The Gamecocks were out-hit .259 to .041 in the loss. The Flames ended up with more kills (33 to 27), aces (5 to 4), blocks (10 to 6), assists (31 to 26), and digs (39 to 28).
