JACKSONVILLE – Offensive lineman
Clay Webb grabbed a prestigious honor on Friday night, when the Jax State junior was named to the 2023 Walter Camp All-America Team.
Webb, a native of nearby Oxford and the Gamecocks' starter at left guard, was a second-team selection to the 134
th edition of the Walter Camp All-America team, the nation's oldest college football All-America team. Twenty-five players were selected to the first team by the 131 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors. In addition, 25 players were selected to the Second Team.
The honor comes just four days after he Webb was named to College Football Network's All-America Team, while also being tabbed CFN's National Offensive Guard of the year. He started every game but one at left guard for the Gamecocks in 2023 and was a key piece in an offensive line that led the Gamecocks to fifth-best rushing offense in FBS through the regular season.
Webb led the Gamecocks to an 8-4 record and a 6-2 conference mark in their first season as a member of Conference USA. He helped pave the way for an offense that is averaging 232.2 yards per game on the ground and has run for at least 140 in every game but one in 2023, including seven games with more than 200 yards and a CUSA-record 522 rushing yards against LA Tech.
The Gamecocks are preparing for the upcoming R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 16. They become just the fifth program to play in a bowl in its first season vs. an FBS slate and the first since Marshall in 1997.
The 2023 Walter Camp All-Americans will be honored at the Foundation's annual Awards
Weekend on March 15-16, 2024, in New Haven, Connecticut.

About Walter Camp
Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
The Walter Camp Football Foundation is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA). The NCFAA was founded in 1997 as a coalition of the major collegiate football awards to protect, preserve and enhance the integrity, influence and prestige of the game's predominant awards. The NCFAA encourages professionalism and the highest standards for the administration of its member awards and the selection of their candidates and recipients.
