Women's Tennis Downed by North Florida

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's tennis suffered their most decisive loss of the season in Friday's ASUN Conference bout with North Florida. The Gamecocks never gained momentum at home and were downed by the visiting Ospreys, 7-0.
 
North Florida (12-6, 4-1) cruised by Jax State (14-5, 4-2) in doubles play. After posting a thunderous victory on court three, UNF's no. 2 doubles tandem rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to shock Zuzana Pavelekova and Anna Syrova and earn the match's opening point.
 
The Ospreys were virtually unstoppable in one-on-one action as well. A veteran North Florida bunch scored four two-set triumphs to clinch the match, then added a pair of three-setters late for good measure. Ella Tuomela lost in the no. 6 singles flight 3-6, 6-2, 0-1 (5-10), and Dariana Prato came up short on court four, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 0-1 (9-11).
 
With the loss, sophomore Anna Syrova dropped just her second doubles decision of 2023 and is now 17-2 in two-on-two competition. In addition, Pavelekova, Prato, and Tuomela all endured their first singles setbacks in ASUN play.
 
Jacksonville State resumes conference action Sunday morning at home. The Gamecocks will play host to league rival Kennesaw State at the JSU Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 10 a.m. in Calhoun County and the men's match versus the Owls will follow around 2 p.m. Links to follow along with live stats for those matches will be provided at JSUGamecockSports.com.
