JACKSONVILLE – Despite picking up singles victories from Dariana Prato and Serafima Shastova, Gamecock women's tennis could not catch a necessary break down the stretch in Sunday's 5-2 loss against Kennesaw State. As a result, Jacksonville State has now dropped three in a row in league competition. 
 
Jax State (14-6, 4-3) dropped a tight doubles battle against the Owls (8-6, 3-3). Romane Mosse and Shastova earned a decisive 6-1 win on court one before KSU rallied for a slim decision in the no. 2 doubles flight. Then, in the final doubles showdown, Kennesaw State's no. 3 pair defeated Gamecocks Irene Artigas and Ella Tuomela in tiebreakers, 7-6 (7-4), to clinch the opening point. 
 
Unfortunately, Mucci's squad could not rebound in singles play before KSU earned a match win. Although Prato tallied a 6-2, 6-3, result in the no. 4 singles flight, losses on courts two, three, and five led to an Owls victory on the day. Shastova (6-2, 4-6, 6-1) earned a three-set triumph in the top singles match to close a long weekend match.
 
With her win on Sunday, Dariana Prato now has a team-best six singles wins in ASUN action and is tied for first on the squad with 13 total victories in 2023. In addition, Serafima Shastova improved to 10-2 in individual play in her first season of college tennis.
 
Jacksonville State's women conclude ASUN Conference play at home on Saturday against Austin Peay. The final home match of the season is set for a 1 p.m. start and will follow the men's contest, which will begin around 10 a.m. Links to follow along with live stats will be provided at JSUGamecockSports.com.
