GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team will play its final regular season tournament at East Carolina's Ironwood Invitational.
The Gamecocks finished their practice round on the par-72, 6,266-yard Ironwood Country Club on Sunday and will begin play in the 54-hole event with two rounds on Monday. It will be Jax State's last tune-up before the ASUN Championship on April 16-18.
The Ironwood will be somewhat of a Homecoming for Jax State head coach Robbie Fields, who served as ECU's assistant coach for three seasons before taking over the Gamecocks last summer. It will put his team on a course he is familiar with from his time with the Pirates.
The Gamecocks are looking to pick up some momentum prior to the ASUN Championship in less than two weeks. They are coming off an 11th-place finish in a tough field at Georgia State last week after grabbing a Top-five finish in Western Kentucky's Spring Break Shootout in mid-March.
Leading the way in her final regular-season tournament as a Gamecock will be senior Claire Vermette, who enters the week as the school's career leader in rounds played (136), counting scores (124), par of better rounds (35) and birdies (301). The St. Petersburg, Fla., native will tee off as the Gamecocks' No. 1 player at 8:36 am ET from Ironwood Country Club's par-4 first hole.
Redshirt freshman Aaron Whitley will play in the No. 2 spot for the Gamecocks, behind No. 3 and sophomore Paula Perez Cubinas in the No. 3 position. Freshman Anna Ymbern Quinoa will play No. 4, while freshman Luciana Calbimonte will round out the lineup and lead things off at 8 a.m. Et on Monday.
The Gamecocks are paired with ASUN rival North Florida and Coastal Carolina to start play on Monday. Also in the Ironwood field is host ECU, College of Charleston, James Madison, Howard and UAB.
