"We came from 1-0, 2-1 and then down 3-1, so we actually came back three or four times and from a character standpoint it was great to see. We were brave in possession tonight and we carried out a very strict gameplan and it's the most battling we have done this season and I am really proud of them," said head coach Sean Fraser.
The pair of goals by Kerguillec were the first for the Landerneau, France native and transfer from Franklin Pierce. The Gamecocks had foal within the first two minutes of the contest voided after an offsides call.
"It was a new position for Salome (Kerguillec) tonight and I thought she was brilliant tonight. I think our midfield position has been fantastic all season," continued Fraser.
Jax State (5-5-1, 0-1-1 CUSA) had a balance attack throughout the contest with four shots in the opening 45 minutes and added five shots in the second half, including six-of-the-seven corner kick chances in the second half. Oubrik and Sophomore
Naroa Domenech led the Gamecocks with three shots each.
Sophomore keeper
Bailey Dean was tested for the full 90 minutes and finished with nine saves after facing 15 shots from the Bulldogs.
The Gamecocks return home to close out Homecoming Week on the Jax State campus. Jax Stater will host Western Kentucky at the Jax State Soccer Complex. Match time is set for 1 p.m. The match will streamed on ESPN+. WKU (2-2-5), who has been idle since September 14, claimed a win over Middle Tennessee in its initial CUSA match of the season.
"We will take the little victories and we are not worried about Sunday just yet. We have to get some rest and recover. The important thing is that they take one day at a time – rest and recover. We will get home and start preparing for Sunday on Saturday," added Fraser.
Jax State and WKU will be meeting for the second time and the first time on either sides pitch as the first meeting between the Gamecocks and Hilltoppers took place in a neutral setting in 2006. The two programs met in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with WKU taking a 3-1 win.
