JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's volleyball team returns to Pete Mathews Coliseum Friday and Saturday for a pair of big CUSA matches against the UTEP Miners.
UTEP is currently tied with Western Kentucky for first place in the conference standings. The Miners have an 18-2 overall record, sit at 8-0 in league play, and are riding an 11-game win streak. The Miners currently average 12.54 assists per set, 13.78 kills per set, 2.96 blocks per set, and 2.36 service aces per set, all of which are best in the CUSA.
UTEP's preseason all-conference team middle blocker Kaya Weaver is certainly poised to be a factor the Gamecocks will have to scheme for as she currently leads the conference in blocks per set averaging 1.51.
For the Gamecocks, Kayla Williams is third in the conference averaging 3.68 kills per set. Ellie Garrett's 8.91 assists per set are enough for the fourth highest in the CUSA. As a team, Jax State is second in service aces with 147 total and 1.81 per set. The Gamecocks are looking to snap an 11-game losing streak in the weekend matches against the Miners.
The matches will be streaming on ESPN+, live stats will be available at JaxStateSports.com, and all home matches include free admission for fans. Friday's match will be a green out in support of the CUSA's mental health awareness initiative. Fans are encouraged to wear green to the game.
