JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State will take on Sewanee Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Pete Mathews Coliseum. The Gamecocks hope to carry the momentum from last Wednesday's 68-56 home win over UAB into Monday evening's matchup with the Tigers

Last Time Out
Jax State is coming off a 68-56 win over UAB on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Pete Mathews Coliseum. The win improves Jax State's record to 3-1. The last time the Gamecocks started their season 3-1 was the 2017-18 season. The Gamecocks ended that season 19-12. The win over UAB avenged a 78-85 overtime loss last season in Birmingham.
Series History
Jax State and Sewanee will face one another for the first time when the Tigers visit the Pete Monday. Sewanee, now a part of the Southern Athletic Association, was a founding member of the Southeastern Conference. The last time Jax State played a founding member of the SEC who is no longer apart of the league was in the 2021-22 WNIT when Jax State took on Tulane.
Barclay and Steele Shine
Wednesday's win against UAB came in large part to two Gamecocks having career-highs in scoring. Asia Barclay and Samiya Steele both had 16 points apiece. The pair of Jax State standouts both got their points on efficient shooting as well. Barclay was 8-9 from the field and Steele was 7-11. Barclay also had six rebounds and Steele added three assists.
Barnes' Consistency
To this point, the most consistent performer for Jax State has been senior forward Mya Barnes. Barnes is averaging 9.8 points per game. Her five points against UAB is the lowest amount of points Barnes has scored thus far. Barnes is shooting 45% from the field, 50% from three, and averaging 5.3 rebounds per game. She also has seven blocks and six assists.
Newcomers Ball Out
Clara Gonzalez Planella and Kyera Thornsbury both had career-highs in their early careers for Jax State. Planella, a junior college transfer from Cochise College, had nine points on 4-5 shooting. Thornsbury, a freshman from Pikeville, Ky., had eight points 3-4 from the field and 2-2 from free throw.

The Gamecocks will travel to Missouri on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. before another road game at Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 12 p.m. central.
