
Gamecocks Head West to Play New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Jacksonville State volleyball heads West to take on New Mexico State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Gamecocks (8-19, 1-13) are fresh off their first CUSA win of the season that came against Florida International on Nov. 2 in a 3-1 match. New Mexico State (14-12, 8-6) was picked second in the preseason poll for the CUSA and currently sits in a tie for fourth place with Sam Houston.
Jax State has been led all season offensively by Kayla Williams. After a 25-kill outing on Nov. 2 against FIU, Williams now leads the CUSA in kills per set averaging 4.01. Williams has 401 total kills on the season. She also sits at eighth in the league in service aces per set averaging 0.36.
Ellie Garrett has been a standout at setter for the Gamecocks throughout the year. Garrett is averaging 9.16 assists per set and has totaled 943 assists to this point. On the backrow, Brooklyn Schiffli, the newest member of the 1,000 digs club at Jax State, is currently in fifth place in the CUSA in digs per set. Schiffli averages 4.16 digs per set and has 428 digs on the year.
With only two weeks left in the regular season, Jax State is currently in ninth place in the league standings. The CUSA takes the top eight teams to the conference tournament. FIU, who is currently in eighth place, is three games ahead of the Gamecocks for the final spot in the 2024 CUSA Conference Tournament. In these last two weeks of the year, Jax State will make a push to get into the tournament.
