JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's basketball hosts their home opener Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. The Gamecocks are coming off a 66-74 loss at Arizona State on Nov. 4, while Southern Utah lost at Utah 52-105 on Nov. 4.

No Place Like Home
The Gamecocks have not lost a regular season home opener since the 2012-13 season when Samford left the Pete Mathews Coliseum with a 45-48 win. Since head coach
Rick Pietri took over in the 2013-14 season, the Gamecocks have yet to lose a regular season home opener.
Dynamic Duo
The combination of
Bre'Anna Rhodes and
Mya Barnes shined in Monday's loss at Arizona State. Rhodes led the Gamecocks with 15 points and tallied six rebounds, while Barnes scored 11 points and led the squad with seven rebounds. Barnes also added four blocks and three steals.
Steele Got It
Junior guard
Samiya Steele joined teammates Rhodes and Barnes in double-digit scoring at Arizona State with 11 points. Steele shot it well making three of six shots from the field, hitting two of three three-pointers, and sinking all four of her free throw attempts.
Close Call
The Gamecocks nearly downed Big 12 opponent Arizona State on Monday. The Red-and-White led 60-57 entering the fourth quarter before a cold shooting final 10 minutes eventually led to Arizona State taking the eight-point victory.
Series History
Saturday's game against Southern Utah is the first time the two programs have ever faced one another. The game is apart of the Conference USA and the Western Athletic Conference's scheduling agreement.
Up Next
Jax State will head to Orangeburg, South Carolina on Friday, Nov. 15, to take on South Carolina State at 6 p.m. central before returning to the Pete on Wednesday, Nov. 20, for a rivalry game against UAB at 6:30 p.m.
