COLUMBIA, MO. – Jacksonville State women's basketball dropped a road game Sunday afternoon at Missouri by a score of 45-79. The Gamecocks are now 4-2 on the season, while Missouri improves to 7-3.
The Gamecocks had the most turnovers they have had all season against the Tigers with 20 in the loss. The Tigers out rebounded the Gamecocks 42-30 and shot 52.5% from the field. Meanwhile, Jax State shot 32.2% from the field and only made six of 25 three-pointers.
"I was bitterly disappointed in our performance," head coach
Rick Pietri said. "As a head coach, I have to take responsibility. Obviously, I didn't prepare our team well enough. We have to take the lessons that we learn from this, and there are many, and hopefully we'll be better the next time."
Bre'Anna Rhodes led the Gamecocks in scoring with 10 points on a solid 5-7 shooting from the field. Rhodes was the lone Gamecock to score in double-digits. The next highest point scorer came from a pair Jax State players in
Brooklyn McDaniel and
Elsie Harris who both had seven points.
Asia Barclay and
Samiya Steele tied for the most rebounds in the contest for Jax State with five apiece.
Missouri jumped out to a 12-2 advantage before a Jax State timeout at the 6:35 mark in the first quarter was called. Missouri continued to extend their lead for the rest of the quarter before closing the period up 23-10 and knocking down 10-18 shots.
Jax State could not get into a rhythm in the second quarter as they were down 15-34 to the Tigers at the media timeout in the second period. Jax State entered the halftime break losing 22-41.
After the break, the Gamecocks were only able to score six points in the third quarter. Meanwhile, Missouri maintained their offensive output as they held a 61-28 lead after the third. In the fourth quarter, Jax State finally got some shots from beyond the arc to fall as they made 5-10 in the period.
The Gamecocks move on to another road test against Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 12 p.m. The game will be streaming on ESPN+ and live stats will be available at JaxStateSports.com.
