JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Jacksonville State neared a program record for three pointers made with 18 as the Gamecocks toppled Columbia International 89-59 in Jacksonville, Ala. on Monday. Jax State finished the game one three pointer shy of the program record of 19, previously set in 2007 against Tennessee Temple.
With the win, Jax State improves to 5-3 on the season.
Jaron Pierre Jr. continues to shine for the Gamecocks, adding yet another 30-point showing to his long list of impressive performances on the season. Pierre has scored 20 points in all but one game so far this season.
With his 25th point in the contest, Pierre surpassed the 1,000th point mark in his career. The senior from New Orleans scored 482 points at Southern Miss before adding 330 points at Wichita State. He has added 193 points this season.
Jax State entered the half leading 36-28 before opening up the half on an 18-9 advantage and rattled off an 16-3 run over a four minute stretch from 12:16-to-7:51.
Jax State out-rebounded the Rams 49-33, including 32 defensive boards. Five Gamecocks poured on at least five rebounds, including the team's season leader
Michael Houge who tallied eight rebounds.
Jao Ituka finished the game with a season-high 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting while
Jamar Franklin finished two points shy of his career-high with 17 points on a 10-of-17 performance from the field.
Franklin and Ituka led the team on the historic night with six made three pointers apiece while Pierre hit five shots from behind the arc. Pierre also finished the game with 10 rebounds and five assists.
Freshman
Quel'Ron House made his debut after missing the first seven games of the season with an injury and impressed. The point guard wrapped up his first appearance of the season with nine points, four rebounds and three assists.
Jax State's next game is set for Sunday, Dec. 8 at South Alabama.
