Jax State takes on Life to close out nonconference play

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's basketball returns to the hardwood after a 10-day break for Christmas to face Life University at home on Monday. The game against the Running Eagles will mark the final game of the nonconference slate before the Gamecocks enter CUSA play.

Last Time Out
Jax State ended a four-game losing skid with a 57-47 home win over New Orleans on Dec. 20. Valentina Saric led the way for the Gamecocks with 11 points on 50% shooting from both the field and three-point range.
Series History
Monday's matchup against Life is the third time the two programs have faced each other and marks the third straight year the two teams have played. Last season, Jax State hosted Life and dominated them in an 83-31 final. The first time Life and Jax State played was on Nov. 22, 2022, inside Pete Mathews Coliseum. The Gamecocks won that matchup 63-40.
A Team Effort
While Saric led the Gamecocks with 11 against New Orleans last time out, plenty of other contributions were made to help Jax State get back in the win column. Bre'Anna Rhodes, Brooklyn McDaniel, and Asia Barclay all added eight points against the Privateers. Samiya Steele had seven points and a team-best seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Saric, Barclay, and Mya Barnes all added six rebounds.
Clara's Day
In the loss at Utah Valley on Dec. 16, Clara Gonzalez Planella set a new career-high with 19 points. She also made six field goals and four threes which are also new career highs. Planella added another career-high of six rebounds in the loss.
Double-Header at Home
Monday's game against Life is a double-header with the Jax State men's basketball team. Following the conclusion of the women's basketball against Life, the men's team will take on Fort Valley State in their final nonconference game of the season as well.
Up Next
Jax State will begin CUSA action hosting Kennesaw State on Jan. 4. The Gamecocks' first three conference games will take place in the Pete.
