JONESBORO, Ark. – The Jacksonville State bowling team rolled its second perfect Baker game this season and posted a 4-1 record on the first day of Arkansas State's Mid-Winter Invitational on Friday.
The top-ranked Gamecocks (71-11) earned wins over Alabama A&M, No. 10 Maryville, No. 16 Newman and No. 24 Central Missouri. Their lone loss came against sixth-ranked Nebraska in a game that saw Jax State post its second-best score of the day. It heads into Saturday in first place in the 18-team field.

Crystal Elliott rolled Jax State's second 300 of the season in the third game against Newman. The Gamecocks' first perfect game in program history came on Nov. 17 at the Hawk Classic.

They are seeking a sixth-consecutive tournament title in their inaugural season of competition and put themselves in a good position headed into Saturday's Traditional matches.
Through Friday's five Baker matches, the Gamecocks averaged 216.4, over three pins more than second-place Nebraska, totaling 5,410 total pins. The Husker's 5,333 are well ahead of third-place Arkansas State's 5,227 and fourth-place Vanderbilt's 5,148.
The day started with a convincing Jax State win over Alabama A&M, thanks to a score of 1,007-900 that was followed by a much closer 1,003-997 win over Maryville.
The third match of the day saw the Gamecocks roll their best score to that point, but Nebraska's best score of the day edged Jax State by a score of 1,155-1,142. Jax State answered the loss, clearing 1,182 pins in a win over Newman that was bolstered by the perfect game.
Jax State closed the first day of the three-day event with a 1,076-852 rout of Central Missouri.
The Gamecocks will continue play in the Mid-Winter Invitational with five traditional matches on Saturday, starting against No. 7 Louisiana Tech. They will then take on Grambling, third-ranked Arkansas State, No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 23McKendree.
