AUBURN, Ala. – An experienced Texas Tech squad thumped Jacksonville State women's tennis in Sunday evening's 4-0 loss in Auburn. That sweep at the Yarbrough Tennis Center ends a three-match winning streak for the Gamecocks and puts them back at .500 on the season.
The Red Raiders (2-3) raced out the gates to a quick opening point following doubles wins on court one and two, 6-2 and 6-0. Then, it was a 6-0, 6-0, victory in No. 5 singles and a 6-2, 6-0, result in No. 4 singles to put them on the brink of clinching. Avelina Sayfetdinova tallied a 6-4, 6-3, triumph on court three to bring the neutral-site pairing to a conclusion.
Zuzana Pavelekova was the only Jax State (3-3) competitor to win a set in singles play. After falling behind 6-4, she rebounded with a 6-0 difference in set two to force a winner-take-all third. Unfortunately, the match was clinched before the resolution of her match with Arina Oreschchenkova in No. 6 singles.
The Gamecocks return to play on Saturday as they make the trip to North Alabama for a matchup with the Lions. Saturday's showdown in Florence will begin at 1 p.m. Links to follow along with live stats will be provided at JaxStateSports.com.
