ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team started its Spring Break trip with a shutout of UNC Asheville on Monday at the Asheville Raquet Club.
The Gamecocks started quickly in doubles with a pair of strong wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The tandem of
Ivan Marrero Curbelo and
Xavier Sarda Marti made quick work of UNCA's team of Freddy Murray and Sam Nicholson, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles. Jac State secured the doubles point at No. 2 with the duo of
Lucius Soller and
Vanja Dobrnjac topped Bruno Serra and Cian Ingles, 6-2.
"Today was a challenge for us today with the weather being a factor today and I thought the guys brought the focus and it started with a dominant performance in doubles and carried it over into singles," said head coach
Trey Morris.
In singles, Jax State tallied the three points needed for the 11th win of the season at No. 2, 4 and 6.
Vanja Dobrnjac notched his 10th win of the season with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sam Nicholson of UNCA at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, Jax State's
Xavier Sarda Marti dispatched UNCA's Cian Ingles 6-2, 6-3 to move to 11-3 on the season in singles action. Senior
Liam Day collected a point at No. 6 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
