EL PASO, Texas - For the second weekend in a row Jax State took the series-deciding third game, this time topping UTEP 3-0 in shutout fashion.

The Gamecocks (14-21) move to 4-5 in Conference USA action where they've won four of their last five contests. 

Sophomore Ashley Phillips led off the game sending the first pitch right back over the center field fence to give Jax State an instant 1-0 advantage. The lead would stick the rest of the way as Kat Carter twirled a gem scattering just four hits across her seven scoreless innings.

Still 1-0 to begin the seventh inning, Ella Pate got aboard to start and was followed by Emma Jones-Hubbard, whose bunt froze the UTEP defense hoping to catch Pate heading home. Senior Lindsey Richardson eventually knocked in both runs with a two-out shot to right for a pair of crucial insurance runs.

Jax State is scheduled to host Alabama on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. from Jana McGinnis Field in the first of eight-straight home games in Jacksonville.
