GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team will wrap up the regular season this week, when the Gamecocks compete in East Carolina's Ironwood Invitational.
With just two weeks to go before the Gamecocks' first appearance in the Conference USA Championship, they will play their final tune-up before that with the 54-hole, two-day event that starts on Monday. They will play 36 holes on the par-72, 6,371-yard Ironwood Country Club on Monday before the final 18 on Tuesday.
The 15-team field will feature seven teams ranked higher than No. 126 Jax State and seven ranked lower. Host ECU (89) and James Madison (93) provide a pair of opportunities for the Gamecocks to get wins over top-100 teams.
Head coach Robbie Fields' team will be paired with UNCG (149) and Elon (119) for the first two rounds and will begin play on the first hole, beginning at 7:45 a.m. ET.
Four freshmen will make up most of the Gamecocks' five-player lineup, starting with true freshman Ashley Stevenson in the No. 1 spot. Stevenson, a native of Fontainebleau, France, has been playing her best golf of late. She is coming off an eighth-place finish in the Spring Break Shootout two weeks ago, which came a week after a runner-up finish at the Chris Banister Golf Classic.
Redshirt freshman Rachel Camp will start the week from the Gamecocks' No. 2 spot. The native of Peachtree City, Ga., is also playing well and has two top-20 finishes since the start of the spring. Her ninth-place finish in the Chris Banister Golf Classic was the first top-10 of her career, while her last time out saw her finish 26th at the Spring Break Shootout.
The No. 3 spot in Jax State's lineup will be occupied by another redshirt freshman in Jinger Heath, who is looking to bounce back after her last time out. The Decatur, Ala., native finished 38th at the Spring Break Shootout but was seventh the week before in Jax State's home tournament.
Junior Paula Perez Cubinas will play in the No. 4 spot for Jax State this week after a strong finish in the Spring Break shootout her last time out. The Girona, Spain, native finished 22nd out of 81 players, thanks to rounds of 72-74-73.
In the No. 5 spot for the Gamecocks will be freshman Sandra Menes, who will be making her debut in the Jax State lineup. The redshirt freshman from Bergen, Norway, transferred in at the midway point of the season and has been overcoming an injury, but she made her collegiate debut as an individual at the Spring Break Shootout.
