JEFFERSONVILLE, Ky. – The Jacksonville State bowling team will bowl for its second national championship in as many weeks on Saturday, when the Gamecocks face Wichita State in the title match of the Intercollegiate Team Championships.
The top-ranked and fourth-seeded Gamecocks (107-23) extended their winning streak to 16 matches on Friday, claiming a pair of 4-3 wins over top-seeded Mount Mercy at the Kingpin Lanes.
The wins give Jax State the Red Bracket title and put them into Saturday's TV show final against Wichita State, who won the Blue Bracket. The championship will be broadcast on a tape delay basis and will be aired on a later date on CBS Sports Network.
The Gamecocks put themselves in the winner's bracket final in the double-elimination, Baker best-of-seven event on Friday afternoon with wins over Saint Xavier and Louisiana Tech. They will bowl the Shockers on Saturday for their second national title in a week.
Jax State won the NCAA National Championship last Saturday, defeating Arkansas State 4-3 in front of a live television audience on ESPNU. Seven days after winning the Gamecocks' first national title since 1992, the Gamecocks have a chance to win the second on Saturday.
Also competing for a title on Saturday will be graduate senior
Crystal Elliott, who will face Lindenwood's Hailey Bozych in the semifinals of the Intercollegiate Singles Championship. Those matches are also going to be televised on a tape delay broadcast.
