HUNTSVILLE, TX. – Jacksonville State's women's tennis took win number six in a row against the Sam Houston State Bearkats on Saturday to close out the regular season.
Fresh off a win Friday over New Mexico State, the Gamecocks (11-7) claimed a 4-1 win at the Bearkats' (7-10) place Saturday afternoon. The win was a total team effort including winning the doubles point thanks to plenty of strong performances.
In doubles action, the Gamecocks' duos of
Serafima Shastova and
Irene Artigas and
Martina Zarza and
Polina Ramenskaja both earned 6-3 wins to jump out to a 1-0 start. Jax State's
Ella Tuomela and
Anna Syrova were in control of their doubles match as well, but it was not finished thanks to doubles point already being claimed by the Gamecocks.
After doubles, Ramenskaja lost her singles match to Sam Houston's Paula Cerda. Ramenskaja's teammates picked her up by winning out.
Anna Syrova dominated with back-to-back 6-1 wins in set ones and two.
Ella Tuomela had a straight-set win with two 6-3 victories.
Dariana Prato clinched the match with a straight-set win of her own. Prato downed Roberta Sechi 6-4 in set one and 6-1 in set two.
