
Gamecocks Ready For Postseason at National Golf Invitational

MARICOPA, Ariz. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team will wrap up its season this weekend, when it competes in Golfweek's National Golf Invitational.
The Gamecocks are one of 10 teams that will be participating in the invitation-only postseason event, held over three days on the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. They will play 54 holes on the par-72, 6,295-yard layout against what will be the toughest cumulative field they've faced this season.
All 10 teams enter the weekend ranked in the top 150 in the national rankings, with four in the top 100 and three more in the top 120. The 132nd-ranked Gamecocks will be making their first postseason appearance since 2021, when they qualified for the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional by winning the Ohio Valley Conference title. Once the entire regional was canceled due to rain and wet course conditions, Barstool stepped up and created the Let Them Play Classic, in which Jax State participated in alongside the other teams from the canceled regional.
Jax State will be paired with Florida Atlantic in Friday's opening round, with the Gamecocks and 126th-ranked Owls teeing off on the 366-yard, par-4 10th hole. Play will begin for Jax State at 7:30 a.m. MT, when its veteran and junior from Girona, Spain, Paula Perez Cubinas, hits her first career postseason tee shot.
It will be the first postseason appearance for all five Jax State players, with three freshmen and a sophomore following the team's most experienced player in Cubinas. Redshirt freshman Rachel Camp and Peachtree City, Ga., native will follow at 7:39 a.m., looking for her fourth top-20 finish of her first collegiate season.
Sophomore Ebby Somers will play in the No. 3 spot for the Gamecocks and tee off at 7:48 a.m. The Valdosta, Ga., native and member of Conference USA's All-Academic Team is coming off a top-20 at the CUSA Championship that saw her finish with an even-par final round.
The freshman duo of Ashley Stevenson and Jinger Heath will lead the Jax State lineup, with Stevenson teeing off at 7:57 a.m. and Heath at 8:06 a.m. Stevenson is wrapping up an All-CUSA freshman season that as seen the Fontainebleau, France, native finish with four-straight Top Tens and the second-lowest scoring average by a freshman in school history.
Heath, a native of Decatur, Ala., has the lowest scoring average by a Jax State freshman in history and was named the CUSA Freshman of the Year for her efforts on the links in her debut season. She has three top-10 finishes, including a win at the UNCG Advance Golf Partners Collegiate in February.
