JACKSONVILLE – Junior
Allison Sibley turned in a hat trick in the opening half to lead Jacksonville State to a dominating 7-1 extinguishing of Alabama State on Thursday night at the Jax State Soccer Complex.
Sibley tallied three of the Gamecocks four first half goals en route to snapping a three-match losing skid to bump the overall record to level at 3-3. ASU dropped to 1-3 on the season. Jax State won its 12th in a row over the Hornets from Montgomery, Alabama and recorded the most goals against its in-state foe since a 5-0 result in the 2021 meeting between the two clubs.
Sibley put the Gamecocks on the scoreboard early with the first of three goals in the seventh minute. The Torrance, California native, who transferred to Jax State from El Camino College, registered the second goal in the 29th minute. Sibley recorded the hat trick with a goal just before the halftime break. Her hat trick is the first since Jax State's
Laleh Lonteen and former Gamecock
Camryn Davis turned in hat tricks last season in a 13-0 thumping of South Carolina State.
Junior
Nancy Almanza posted Jax State's other goal in the first half with a netted ball in the 34th minute. Almanza finished with four points after a pair of assists in the win.
"Intensity was the biggest thing tonight and the players were deliberate in their actions tonight and the technical delivery was very good tonight," said head coach Sean Fraser. "We have been talking about her
Allison Sibley) runs in meetings and today she was brilliant."
The Gamecocks did not let up after intermission after Fraser made wholesale changes to get real match experience for some players with the Conference USA slate just around the corner.
Senior
Salome Kerguillec quickly added to the lead in the opening moments of the second half, while freshman
Abby Cole carded her first goal in a Gamecock kit in the minutes later in the 48th minute. Graduate
Tori Paul posted her third goal of the season with a scoring play in the 85th minute.
"We played 23 players and made nine subs at halftime and a few right before halftime, so it shows the depth of the squad, but we are young in some areas, so it was good to get big minutes for those players," added Fraser.
Jax State, one of the leader in CUSA in assists, had an assist on all seven goals. Including Almanza's pair of assists, Sophomore
Alexia Des Croisselles, graduate
Melissa Kuya Strobel, Paul and junior
Evie Crawford were credited with an assist.
The Gamecocks controlled the possession and finished with a season-high 37 shots with 21 of those on goal opportunities.
Jax State returns to action on Sunday in Statesboro, Georgia with a 12 p.m. CST matinee contest with the Eagles of Georgia Southern. GSU blanked North Florida on Thursday, 3-0. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
