JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's basketball is set to face Conference USA foe New Mexico State on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Gamecocks are coming off a thrilling overtime victory over UTEP on Thursday in a 72-71 final. Meanwhile, the Aggies fell at Kennesaw State Thursday night in a tight 68-66 game.

Last Time Out
Jax State ended a four-game losing skid with a buzzer-beating overtime win against UTEP on Jan. 23 inside the Pete Mathews Coliseum. The Gamecocks downed the Miners 72-71thanks to a buzzer-beating 15-foot floater by
Clara Gonzalez Planella who had 14 points in the win.
Asia Barclay led the way against UTEP with a team-high 16 points and six rebounds. Barclay got the start as
Bre'Anna Rhodes was out with injury.
Valentina Saric also had double-figures in scoring as she added 12 points on four threes.
Series History
The Gamecocks and Aggies have played twice in their histories. Both matchups came last season in Jax State's inaugural season as a CUSA member. The first game came on Feb. 3, 2024, inside Pete Mathews Coliseum in a 56-49 win for the Gamecocks. The second meeting came on March 2, 2024, at New Mexico State in another Jax State win. The Gamecocks won that game 60-51.

The Red-and-White have been great at home, posting a 7-3 record inside the Pete thus far. Over the past five seasons, Jax State is 54-15 at home not including their current 7-3 record this season.

Jax State leads the CUSA in three pointers made this season. The Gamecocks have knocked down 141 shots from range for an average of 8.3 makes per game. Against UTEP, the Gamecocks hit 13 threes on 45 attempts. The 45 attempts were the second most all-time only behind 49 against Sewanee earlier this season. Jax State made 20 threes in that dominating win over Sewanee.

Jax State currently ranks third in the league in opponent field goal percentage as they only allow 38.2% of their opponent's shots to go in. The Gamecocks' three-point defense is even better. Jax State ranks first in the CUSA in opponent three-point percentage, allowing only 23.4% of opponent threes to fall. The Gamecocks also rank second in lowest points allowed in the conference, allowing only 59.1 points per contest.

Senior forward
Mya Barnes ranks fourth in the CUSA in total number of blocks and average blocks per game. Barnes has 27 blocks to this point in the season for an average of 1.6 per game. Anastasiia Boldyreva, one of the best shot blockers in the country, leads the league with 59 total blocks and an average of 3.3 per game.
NMSU's Star
While Jax State's defense has been impressive all season, they will have their hands full when the Aggies visit the Pete. New Mexico State's Molly Kaiser leads the conference in points per game by a wide margin. Kaiser averages 21.9 points per game. The next closest in the league is Prencis Harden of Kennesaw State who is averaging 16.6 points per game.
