DALLAS—A pair of Jax State football players picked up Conference USA Player of the Week honors for their performance in a 29-27 comeback win at Sam Houston on Thursday.
Running back
Cam Cook was named the Offensive Player of the Week and kicker
Garrison Rippa was named Special Teams Player of the Week, each earning that honor for the second time this season.
Cook put together a career night, rushing for 218 yards on 31 attempts with a pair of touchdowns in his return to his home state of Texas. Through seven weeks, Cook leads the NCAA in total rushing at 832 yards and yards per game at 138.7. He became the fourth player this season to post 200 or more rushing yards in a game and has two of the five best single game rushing performances this season.
Rippa connected on three field goals, highlighted by a career-long and program record-tying 52-yarder as time expired to give the Gamecocks the win. His 10 successful field goals leads Conference USA and the 52-yarder was also the second-longest field goal made in the conference this season.
