DALLAS—Jax State has its seventh Conference USA weekly honor of the season.
Caleb Nix was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Gamecocks come away with a 30-27 victory at UTEP to reach bowl eligibility for the third consecutive season.
The redshirt junior from Phenix City recorded his second defensive touchdown in three weeks, returning an interception 93 yards for a touchdown at the 8:12 mark of the second quarter. It was the second-longest interception return for a touchdown in program history. Nix also recorded five tackles, helping out on one for a loss.
The Gamecocks are 6-3 overall and 5-0 in Conference USA and will host Kennesaw State, which is also 5-0 in the league on Saturday at 7 p.m. A limited number of tickets remain on sale at
