Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Gamecocks Rout Reinhardt For Historic Victory

JACKSONVILLE – For the second consecutive game, Jax State finished with five players in double figures in a 114-39 rout of Reinhardt on Monday.

Mostapha El Moutaouakkil led the way offensively for the Gamecocks with 20 points, finishing just one rebound shy of a double-double. Senior transfer AC Bryant added 19, while Jamar Franklin tallied 18 of his own.

Jax State's first 12 field goal attempts all came from beyond the arc, including three from Bryant. A layup from El Moutaouakkil with 11:06 remaining in the first was Jax State's first two-point basket of the game.

Over the final 10 minutes of the opening half the Gamecocks outscored Reinhardt 26-7, giving the home team a 49-19 advantage after 20 minutes.

Jax State forward Bencao Vungo exploded for seven points and 13 rebounds in the second half, finishing with 12 points and 16 rebounds for his first career double-double. Freshman Jacoby Hill fired 5-for-7 from the field and 2-for-4 from three for 13 points.

Vungo finished as the first Gamecock to grab 16 boards in a game since Brandon Huffman pulled down 16 against Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 7, 2021.

Jax State outscored Reinhardt 65-15 in the second half on the way to a dominant victory. The 75-point margin of victory is the second largest win in program history, trailing just a 149-63 win over John Marshall in the 1963-64 season.

The record-breaking win is just the fourth time in school history Jax State has defeated a team by 70 or more points and the first since a 70-point win over Brescia in 2019.

With his 20-point outing on Monday, El Moutaouakkil is averaging 23.5 points per game this season. El Moutaouakkil finished with 27 points in the season opener against Oakwood.

Jaye Nash led the Gamecocks with four assists. Four Gamecocks also finished with two steals apiece. As a team, the Gamecocks outrebound the Eagles 55-25, including a 22-9 margin on the offensive glass.

Jax State returns to Pete Mathews Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 14, against Coastal Carolina.
