Women's Basketball Drops First Road Contest At UNA

FLORENCE, Ala. – Jax State's late game push at North Alabama was not enough as the Gamecocks fall 66-54 Monday night.
Makala Hobdy led the way for Jax State with 16 points and eight rebounds. Senior transfer Adriana Jones also reached double figures, adding 10. Kyera Thornsbury and Maria Sanchez-Ponce both added seven points.
Trailing 66-45 with 3:12 left in the fourth quarter, Jax State made a late attempt at a comeback, closing the game on a 9-0 scoring run sparked by a layup from Hobdy.
The Gamecocks lone lead of the game came with 4:59 in the first quarter when Hobdy knocked down a three to put Jax State in front 11-10. Vitoria Carvalho's put back layup with 0:43 left in the first was the final bucket for either team as UNA took a 19-15 advantage into the second.
The Lions went up 10 early in the second, but Jax State was able to get with four with just over four minutes left in the first half. UNA went on to hold a 35-27 advantage heading into halftime.
UNA went up as many as 25 in the fourth quarter before the Gamecocks' late game comeback attempt.
Mya Barnes tallied seven rebounds, two steals, and an assist in 26 minutes of action. Carvalho scored six points and pulled down four boards. The Gamecocks out rebounded UNA 46-40 in the contest.
Jax State returns to Pete Mathews Coliseum Thursday, Nov. 13, to take on Southern Mississippi.
