JACKSONVILLE – The Jax State women's basketball squad opens the 2025-26 season Monday with a matchup inside Pete Mathews Coliseum against LaGrange College at 11:30 a.m. The game will be the team's annual Education Day where students from schools in the surrounding area will attend to root for the Gamecocks.

Last Season Rundown
The Jax State Gamecocks women's basketball team enters their third season in Conference USA in 2025-26. The Gamecocks are coming off a 10-20 season and a 4-14 record in CUSA play in 2024-25.
Mya Barnes Honored Preseason
Senior forward
Mya Barnes was selected to the 2025-26 Preseason All-CUSA Team. Barnes averaged 7.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks on 27.8 minutes per game last season. Barnes' 1.2 blocks per game and 35 total blocks ranked her fifth in the league in both categories last season.
Maria Sanchez-Ponce's Return
Maria Sanchez-Ponce also returns from last season's squad. Ponce averaged 8.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in 2024-25. She scored a career-best 20 points against FIU on March 1, 2025, and played a career-high 38 minutes at Western Kentucky on Feb. 8, 2025. In the game at WKU, Ponce also grabbed a career-best nine rebounds.
Fresh Faces
The Gamecocks welcome four freshmen to the 2025-26 roster. Masa Buzic is a guard from Serbia,
Mearah Whitehead is a guard from Georgia,
Abril Ricart-Mensah is a guard from Spain, and
Mina Djurdjevic is a forward from Serbia.
Terrific Transfers
The Gamecocks added three transfers to the 2025-26 roster.
Adriana Jones is a senior combo guard from Troy,
Makala Hobdy is a junior point guard from Shelton State Community College, and Vitoria Carvalho is a senior forward from Idaho.
