JONESBORO, Ark. – The Gamecocks held Arkansas State to just two made field goal in the final eight minutes of Monday's contest, but were unable to come out on top as the Red Wolves defeated JSU 74-63 in Jonesboro.

Jax State (3-2) trailed by as many as 17 in the second half before cutting the Arkansas State (4-3) lead down to six and possessing the ball with just under one minute remaining, but were unable to complete the comeback attempt.

Jax State led for just over five minutes in the first half of action before surrendering the lead with just over eight minutes in the first half. The Red Wolves would take a 38-32 lead into the halftime break and would not surrender it for the remainder of the contest.

Arkansas State pushed its lead out to 17 in just under four minutes into the second half before the Gamecocks swung back, with six straight points in the next minute and a half.

Jax State made the lead single digits with 4:14 remaining on a Mostapha El Moutaouakkil free throw and battled over the final four minutes before coming up just short.

El Moutouakkil led Jax State with 16 points, 10 of which came from the charity stripe. He also tacked on six rebounds.

Emondrek Erkins-Ford and Jaye Nash also added nine points apiece. Iaroslav Niagu finished with four points and six rebounds in his first start of the 2025-26 season.

Arkansas State's Christian Harmon led the contest with 21 points, shooting 5-of-9 from the field.

Jax State will face North Dakota State on Wednesday in Jonesboro before returning home on Monday, Dec. 1 to face North Alabama at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
