JACKSONVILLE – Jax State volleyball rallied Thursday to reverse sweep the visiting New Mexico State Aggies inside Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Gamecocks (12-13, 6-7) were in danger of being swept by the Aggies (14-12, 7-6) as NMSU led 19-15 in the third after winning the first two sets. However, Jax State finished the match with a 50-26 run. Jax State ended the third set on a 10-4 run, won the fourth set 25-16, and clinched the victory in the fifth set by a score of 15-6.
In the match, senior defensive specialist
Madison Konopka reached the 1,000-career dig milestone. Konopka's second dig of the night in the first set was enough to put her over the 1,000 mark. Konopka spent two years at Binghamton where she accumulated 679 digs before transferring to Jax State ahead of the 2024 season. She has 323 digs as member of the Jax State program.
Against the Aggies,
Kayla Williams and
Sophia Schweikert tied for a team-best 11 kills.
Amaya Tolentino trailed with nine kills on the evening.
Luci Wilkinson led the Gamecocks with five service aces, marking a new season-high.
Morgan Blazzard and Konopka tied for the next most on the team with three.
Charlee Solomon had a team-high 36 assists.
Defensively, Wilkinson had the most digs with 17. Solomon added 11 digs, respectively.
Sanni Rantanen was a force at the net with a team-best four total blocks. Williams also had five digs, while Schweikert and Tolentino added two block assists.
As a team, the Gamecocks put down 42 kills, had 42 assists, 41 digs, five blocks, and an impressive 16 service aces against the Aggies.
Jax State returns to action Friday at 2 p.m. in the Pete for another showdown against New Mexico State.
