JACKSONVILLE – The Jax State Men's Basketball team worked their way back into the win column on Sunday afternoon with a 66-39 win over Auburn University Montgomery.

Jax State (4-4) held Auburn-Montgomery (2-7) to just 21.3 percent shooting from the field on Sunday, including a 15.2 percent mark in the second half. Auburn-Montgomery managed just five made field goals in the second half, three of which came in the final five minutes.

The Warhawks managed to prevent a large deficit early in the contest, after Jax State jumped ahead by 10 in the first five minutes, AUM shortened the lead and remained within striking distance, entering the half trailing only 32-23.

Jax State suffocated the Warhawks in the second half, holding AUM without a field goal for over seven minutes of action before a fastbreak layup with 12:44 left found its way through the net.

Jax State held AUM to just two field goals for the next 10 minutes, pushing its lead out to as much as 31 in the process. The Warhawks closed out the game with 10 points in the last five minutes of action to shorten the Jax State lead to 66-39 as time expired.

It is the second time this season Jax State has held an opponent to 39 or fewer points, joining the Reinhardt game from earlier this year in which Jax State won 114-39.

Mostapha El Moutaouakkil finished with 19 points, maintaining his season average while Jamar Franklin finished with 11 and Aitor Anabitarte tacked on nine of his own.

El Moutaouakkil finished the game with a double-double, also adding on 10 rebounds. Jax State finished with a 50-37 advantage on the boards even though AUM had a 22-20 edge over JSU at the half.

Jax State returns to play on Saturday, Dec. 13 at Georgia State, tipping off at 6 p.m.
